Four zero day attacks identified during honeypots hacking

Four new methods of hacking were identified when fake networks setup for studying the
vulnerabilities of industrial system security were attacked by hackers. Industrial control systems are used to manage a wide range of critical systems like fire-suppression systems, chemical processing plants, building automation, power generation plants etc. These systems rely on IP-based networks like the internet for communication which makes them highly vulnerable to ransomware, malware and other malicious attacks.

The research was conducted by Industrial Defencia over a period of 13 months and consisting of 120 high interaction fake networks. The results were presented at a cyber-security conference. The study was a reflection of the poor state of affairs regarding ICS network security.
