Framework, a laptop computer manufacturer, is informing customers that personal information was stolen in a data breach at its primary external accounting partner.

According to the California-based business, a phishing attempt that was directed towards a Keating Consulting employee caused the incident, which happened on Thursday, January 11. According to the notification that Framework sent to the impacted individuals, a copy of which shared by the company with SecurityWeek, the phishing email was received on January 9.

The attackers asked the Keating Consulting employee to provide “accounts receivable information pertaining to outstanding balances for Framework purchases,” posing as the CEO of the Framework.
