MITRE and CISA Launch Open Source Tool for OT Attack Emulation

MITRE Corporation and the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) announced today a new extension for the open source Caldera platform that simulates adversarial attacks against operational technology (OT).

The Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HSSEDI) and CISA worked together to create the new Caldera for OT extension in order to increase the resilience of critical infrastructure.

The MITRE ATT&CK framework serves as the foundation for the Caldera cybersecurity platform, which offers automated adversary emulation, security assessments, and red-, blue-, and purple-teaming.

According to MITRE, the new extension will aid in finding and removing OT’s weak points, which are crucial components of critical infrastructure like water, transportation, and electricity facilities.
