North Korea's APT Lazarus Targeting the Chemical Sector

Symantec threat researchers have discovered indications that North Korea’s Lazarus APT organization is targeting chemical businesses as part of an ongoing cyberespionage operation that involves phony employment offers and deceptive social engineering.

Lazarus, which is considered a nation-state-sponsored threat actor, has perpetrated some of the largest cryptocurrency heists ever recorded, but its recent targeting of chemical and information technology businesses in South Korea indicates a shift away from big-game financial crime.

Symantec’s threat intelligence team published details on the new Lazarus finding, noting that this campaign is a continuation of Operation Dream Job, a malware operation previously connected to the renowned North Korean hacker gang.
