FireTail

FireTail Inc., a disruptor in API security, is pleased to welcome two new additions to the company’s advisory board: Mikko Hypponen and Sounil Yu. Purposefully curated to help FireTail navigate this critical period of company growth, the advisory board represents strategic decision makers and experts in their field that will contribute to continued innovation and meeting the API security needs of today’s leading organizations.

“As an early-stage cybersecurity company, surrounding ourselves with experts who have made a demonstrable impact on the industry is a significant advantage. We are incredibly grateful for the commitment of Mikko and Sounil to support FireTail as advisors and join our mission to secure the world’s APIs,” says Jeremy Snyder, CEO and Co-Founder of FireTail.

Hypponen is a cybersecurity expert, speaker and author and currently the Chief Research Officer at WithSecure. He is well known for the Hypponen Law of IoT Security: “If It’s Smart, It’s Vulnerable,” which is also the title of his latest book, which has been translated to five languages. During his long career – which has lasted over 30 years – he has accomplished many notable career achievements: he was selected as one of the 50 most important people on the web by the PC World magazine, and was included in Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers list. Hypponen is an accomplished speaker, regularly presenting at prestigious conferences around the world like TED, SXSW, Black Hat, DEFCON, RSA, and more.

Yu is an accomplished security practitioner, investor, and author, and he is currently the co-founder and CTO of Knostic, a stealth startup. He is known as the creator of the DIE Triad security model and author of the Cyber Defense Matrix, which are transforming current approaches to cybersecurity. In his former roles as the Chief Security Scientist at Bank of America and CISO at JupiterOne, Yu has made significant contributions through his leadership in the field. Yu’s career is marked by his dedication to advancing cybersecurity, promoting collaboration and innovation, and providing guidance and expertise to various organizations and initiatives in the industry.

“Today, all companies are software companies. More and more companies allow access to their services via APIs, but do not secure their APIs properly. This poses a significant risk, and must be addressed. FireTail has a unique solution for companies that want to secure their APIs,” added Hypponen. “With their application layer visibility and inline inspection of malicious API calls, FireTail is well positioned for growth and to become a market leading API security company.”

“FireTail is redefining the industry’s approach to API security,” added Yu. “Given the growing threat against APIs and novel attack vectors introduced by tools like ChatGPT, we need a fresh perspective of what effective API security looks like. As part of the advisory board, I look forward to collaborating with the talented team at FireTail, contributing my expertise, and helping shape the future of API security. Together, we aim to ensure that companies can harness the full potential of APIs while maintaining robust security measures.”
