Temu Partners with Cybersecurity Agency HackerOne to Improve Data Security

Temu

Temu, one of the newest and most downloaded shopping apps in the world, has partnered with cybersecurity agency HackerOne to offer a Bug Bounty Program. Temu joins the likes of Amazon, Google, Tesla, and Meta in using the San Francisco-based HackerOne platform to connect and reward ethical hackers for successfully discovering and reporting security vulnerabilities.

Bug Bounty Programs allow companies to leverage the hacker community to improve their systems’ security. Temu’s Bug Bounty Program offers rewards starting from $30 for discovered bugs of low severity, and going up to as high as $5,000 for critical vulnerabilities. Temu was founded in Boston in September 2022 and is one of the youngest companies to join the program.

A Temu spokesperson says: “Temu considers privacy and security to be core functions of our platform. Earning and keeping the trust of our users is our top priority, so we hold ourselves to the highest privacy and security standards. We are committed to collaborating with the security community to identify and address vulnerabilities, increasing the transparency of security testing, and ensuring the safety of our businesses and customers.”

In line with this partnership, Temu has introduced Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to enhance the security of its website and mobile apps. As a part of the latest measure taken by the company to protect consumers, Temu aims to deter fraudulent activity by adding a layer of security that prevents unauthorized access.

The 2FA rollout and Bug Bounty Program follows Temu’s lawsuits against phishing websites that masquerade as Temu to cheat users. Temu has won injunctions against the phishing sites from the U.S. courts, a win in its legal action to hold malicious actors to account.

The e-commerce platform is known for offering ultralow prices for general merchandise by connecting consumers directly to manufacturers and cutting out middlemen markups and fees. Since its debut in the U.S. Temu has expanded to more than 40 countries, including North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
