OpenWRT, an open-source project, has acknowledged a security breach attack over the weekend. The project is known for providing customizable and free firmware to domestic routers. The message was posted on the official forum of the website and distributed with the help of multiple FOSS and Linux-themed mailing lists. A malicious actor has accessed the account of the forum administrator.
The working process of the hacker is yet to be identified. The maintainers of OpenWRT said that the hacker was unable to download the complete copy of the database. However, a list of the forum users was downloaded that includes personal data.
