GitHub Rotates Credentials in Reaction to Security Breach

Security-Breach

GitHub has announced that it has implemented a credential rotation policy in response to discovering a vulnerability that could potentially expose login information for GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Server.

After receiving the vulnerability report on December 26, 2023, the platform owned by Microsoft moved quickly to resolve the problem and remove any credentials that might have been exposed. This caused disruptions on December 27 and 29.

The platform’s security protocols require that credentials exposed to third parties be rotated, but the security flaw that allowed access to credentials within a production container had no effect other than on the security researcher who found and reported it.
