An analysis conducted by OT and IoT cybersecurity firm Nozomi Networks shows that the Glupteba botnet is still active following Google’s efforts to disrupt the cybercrime operation. A large number of compromised Windows devices fuel the Glupteba botnet. T

he malware has the ability to mine cryptocurrencies, turn devices into proxies, and steal user credentials and other data. It uses blockchain technology associated with cryptocurrencies to safeguard its command and control (C&C) system. Google declared that it had taken action against the Glupteba botnet and its purported operators in December 2021.

The internet behemoth had sued the two men and collaborated with business associates to destroy C&C infrastructure.
