Google Alerts Exploited to Push Fraudulent Adobe Flash Updater

Malicious leads use Google Alerts to promote a fake Adobe Flash Player updater that installs other undesired programs on unsuspecting user’s computers.

The threat actors create false stories with headlines including popular keywords that Google Search then indexes. Once listed, Google Alerts will inform people who are following those keywords.

It has been observed that they have been redirecting users to web pages pushing browser notification spam, fake giveaways, or undesired extensions.

It’s been advised by the company to simply close the browser if the user is redirected to a website via Google Alerts, Google Search, or others and is prompted to install an extension or program update.
