Iranian hackers use a new backdoor to attack US defense industrial base entities

Microsoft is alerting people to fresh state-sponsored attacks from Iran that are aimed at US defense industrial base (DIB) personnel.

The tech giant names the activity cluster that it tracks as APT33, Elfin, Holmium, Magnallium, and Refined Kitten, and refers to it as Peach Sandstorm, which is the source of the attacks. APT33 is recognized for targeting companies in the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East that are involved in government, research, aerospace, energy, finance, and other sectors.

It is considered to have been operational since at least 2013 and to have the support of the Iranian government.
