Mozilla Firefox removes Malicious Add-Ons abusing proxy API

The Mozilla Firefox team blocked add-ons that misused the proxy API to prevent about 455,000 users from updating their browsers.

Mozilla development team members Rachel Tublitz and Stuart Colville said they had received malicious add-ons in early June.

Add-ons misused the proxy API, which is to control how Firefox connects to the Internet. Add-ons are powerful software snippets that can be added to Firefox or other applications to customize the browser by doing things like blocking, blocking ads, downloading videos from websites or providing content translation.
