The US government confirms reports that hackers backed by a foreign government breached the US Treasury Department and a section of the US Department of Commerce.
National Security Council spokesman John Ullyot said, “The United States government is aware of these reports, and we are taking all necessary steps to identify and remedy any possible issues related to this situation.”

The FBI is investigating the group, known among private-sector cyber security firms as APT29 or Cozy Bear. The same group is also believed to have hacked US government agencies during the Obama administration.
