Acuity Brands, an industry leader in lighting and building management, has disclosed two data breaches in the last few years, one of which may have involved ransomware.

The business, which has operations in North America, Europe, and Asia, is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and employs about 13,000 people there. Acuity Brands stated in a recent data security incident notice that it first learned of unauthorized access to its systems and data theft in early December 2021. A different, unrelated breach that happened in October 2020 that also involved attempts to copy files from compromised systems was discovered during the investigation into the incident.

The health plan members, as well as current and former employees, had their personal information compromised in the two incidents, according to the results of the investigation. There is no evidence that any customer data was stolen.
